The "City Manga Museum" opened on the 5th and 6th floors of a commercial building on the north side of JR Kokura Station in Kitakyushu City on August 3. The museum has a monument in front of the station featuring a character from one of his best-known works, as well as a permanent corner inside the building. The museum is expected to become a new tourist attraction in Kitakyushu, as the manga artist's works are loved by people of all ages. The permanent corner displays approximately 170 pieces of original drawings and cels. On the promenade leading to the station, there is a monument of Mater, Tetsuro, and three other characters from "The Galaxy Express 999," and parents and children were quick to take commemorative photos.
At the opening ceremony on the same day, Mr. Matsumoto said, "This is an important hometown that has nurtured my heart. I want to help in any way I can.
The museum has a collection of more than 60,000 comic books. It expects 100,000 visitors a year.
