Demolition of "Aka Puri" Completed
Symbol of the vanished bubble
May 19. 2013, Tokyo, Japan - No wrecking ball, no dynamite blasting, but Grand Prince Hotel Akasaka, which once stood majestically in the heat of Tokyo's upscale Akasaka area, disappears silently and unnoticeably on May 19, 2013. In a new demolition process called Taisei Ecological Reproduction System, developed by Japan's Taisei Corp., the 40-story building was tore down floor by floor inside temporary columns put around the top floors and shrank 6.4 meters every 10 days. The demolition started last November and almost completed six months later. (Photo by Natsuki Sakai/AFLO) AYF -mis-
