Flesh fly
Flesh fly. This genus of true flies occurs worldwide and are known as common flesh flies (Sarcophaga) resting on a branch in a garden habitat. The larvae feed on rotting flesh, hence the name. It is not possible to tell different species apart without microscopic examination. Photographed in Somerset, UK, in September., by HEATH MCDONALD/SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY
