Fluorescence micrograph of a liverwort (Calypogeia fissa) gametophore, consisting of a small stem with three rows of leaves. On the top of the shoots there are often produced one- or two-celled vegetative gemmae Liverworts do not produce flowers but instead reproduce asexually using gemmae. A gemma is a single cell, mass of cells, or modified bud of tissue, that detaches from the parent and develops into a new individual. Observed in ultraviolet (UV) light.
