Varicella zoster virus (VZV) particles, illustration. VZV is a member of the Herpes virus family and causes chickenpox and shingles in humans. Each particle (virion) consists of a deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA, pink) core surrounded by an icosahedral capsid (yellow).
