On October 10, 1964, the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics was held at the National Stadium in Tokyo under a "sunny Olympics" sky. After the Emperor Showa's opening proclamation, eight members of the Maritime Self-Defense Force dressed in white sailor suits entered from the south gate of the stadium, holding up the Olympic flag. The Olympic flag moves forward as about 5,500 athletes from 94 countries look on.
