The Tokyo Olympics began on October 10, 1964, and on October 15, 1964, Bob Hayes of the United States broke the "10-second barrier" in the men's 100-meter semifinals at the National Stadium in Tokyo. He broke the "10-second barrier" that was said to be a dream of mankind. The 70,000 spectators went wild with Hayes' dynamic running style.
