On October 15, Ken Matthews (U.K.) won the gold medal in the 20-kilometer race. After reaching the goal on the National Stadium track, Matthews excited the stands with a performance of hugging his wife, and at the award ceremony, he received an especially loud applause and responded by raising his hands.
