Total lunar eclipse
Total lunar eclipse from start to finish as seen from the Kitt Peak National Observatory, Arizona, USA. The deep red colour of this lunar eclipse (lower left) is believed to be due to the remains of the ash from the 2022 Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai volcanic eruption in the Pacific Ocean. The extent of the Earth's shadow can be seen. The ozone fringe in blue is due to ozone absorption in the upper stratosphere of the Earth., by KPNO/NOIRLab/NSF/AURA/PETR HORALEK/SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY
