Venus and Moon after sunset, Paranal Observatory, Chile. The planet Venus shines brightly at centre. The thin crescent of the Moon is visible with the rest of the Moon illuminated by light reflected off the Earth, a phenomenon known as Earthshine. At left is an Auxiliary Telescope which is part of the Very Large Telescope (VLT) array at the Paranal Observatory.
