Christmas rose (Helleborus niger) pistils (centre, green) and stamens (lower centre, detached). The pistils are the female reproductive parts of the flower, containing a stigma (tip), style (stalk) and an ovary (bulbous). Within the ovaries are the ovules, the female gametes (sex cells).
