Unerupted tooth, SEM
Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a section through an unerupted tooth. It is covered with ameloblast cells (red), which secrete enamel onto the developing tooth. Below them is the enamel (grey), the outer covering of the crown (visible part) of the tooth. It is the hardest material in the human body.
