Candidates for Tokyo Gubernatorial Election Hold Individual Conferences
Utsunomiya presents his policy philosophy
January 22, 2014, Tokyo, Japan - Independent candidate Kenji Utsunomiya speaks during a news conference at the Japan National Press Club in Tokyo on Wednesday, January 22, 2014, one day before the official kick-off of Tokyo gubernatorial election campaigning. The club planned to host a joint news conference but called it off due to lack of enthusiasm in candidates for expanding on their policies through public debate. The club instead hosted individual news conferences for three candidates. Utsunomiya, the 67-year-old former head of the Japan Federation of Bar Associations, is running in the race against former Prime Minister Morihito Hosokawa, former Health, Labor and Welfare Minister Yoichi Masuzoe, former air force four-star general Toshio Tamogami and 85-year-old inventer Yoshiro Nakamatsu.
