Lamellar bone, light micrograph
Light micrograph of a Haversian canal (central white circle) surrounded by the lamellar (concentrically layered) matrix of bone. The osteocytes (bone cells) are the small blue circles interspersed within the lamellar matrix. The bone cells themselves are present within spaces called osteocyte lacunae (smaller round to oval white spaces). Haematoxylin and eosin stained tissue section.
