Intima kidney blood vessel, light micrograph
Light micrograph of cells within a thickened intimal layer of a blood vessel. The intimal layer is normally very thin, but can become thickened in vascular disease such as that caused by hypertension (high blood pressure) or atherosclerotic disease. The cells have spindled (slightly elongated) nuclei (light purple) surrounded by cytoplasm (dark pink). PAS stained tissue section. Magnification: x600 when printed at 10cm wide., by ZIAD M.
