Lunar corona above Moai statues, Easter Island
Lunar corona above Moai statues on Easter Island. This optical phenomenon is caused by the diffraction of light by small water droplets and ice crystals of clouds. A full corona consists of several concentric, pastel-coloured rings around the celestial object and a central bright area called an aureole.
