Apologizes for STAP Cell Doubts
On April 16, Yoshiki Sasai, deputy director of the RIKEN Center for Developmental Biology and Regenerative Medicine and co-author of the STAP cell paper, held a press conference to discuss the issues surrounding the paper. He apologized for the confusion and suspicion he had caused and insisted that the existence of STAP cells was "the most promising hypothesis. On the other hand, he expressed his belief that it is appropriate to retract the paper.
