Most air-polluted cities, illustration
Infographic illustration showing the 20 most air-polluted cities in the world. The pollution was measured as the highest annual concentration of fine particulate matter less than 2.5 micrometres in diameter (PM2.5). The most air-polluted city was Lahore, Pakistan, with a PM2.5 concentration of 97.4 micrograms per cubic metre of air. The World Health Organization guidelines say that annual average concentrations of PM2.5 should not exceed 5 micrograms per cubic metre of air.
