Old Gokasho Road, stepping stones, Mie Prefecture
In the old days. In the old days, farmers used to walk across this bridge lined with giant stones 365 days a year to work in the rice paddies and burn charcoal in all four seasons. It has withstood the torrents of many typhoons and is still here today. The civil engineering wisdom of the ancients is amazing! The structure of the road, which is aligned diagonally to the stream, seems to have contributed to flood control downstream, including maintenance.
