Large solar prominence
Large solar prominence. Prominences are dense clouds of plasma, or ionised gas, that extend outward from the Sun's surface into its outer atmosphere, called the corona. They are associated with the Sun's magnetic field. Prominences can arc hundreds of thousands of kilometres over the Sun's surface, several times larger than Earth.
