Light micrograph of Paneth cells in the small bowel. Paneth cells are part of the epithelium (surface lining) of the small and part of the large bowel. In this image, the Paneth cells are seen towards the bottom of the image and can be recognized by the bright eosinophilic (bright pink-red) granules they contain. Also seen in this image is the muscularis mucosal layer (bottom most of image). Haematoxylin and eosin stained tissue section. Magnification: 100x when printed at 10cm., by ZIAD M.
