JR Kyushu's "BIG EYE," a multifunctional inspection car that runs on the Kagoshima Main Line, collects data on track distortion and performs maintenance inspections. The car was reborn as a survey car by replacing the engine of one Kiha 220 class car that was damaged at Hitoyoshi Station in Kumamoto Prefecture during the Kyushu torrential rains in 2020 and adding a survey device under the floor, with full-scale introduction scheduled for April 2024.
