Trachea lining, SEM
Trachea lining, coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). The tracheal lining contains mucus-secreting goblet cells and epithelial cells bearing hair-like cilia (pink). The movement of the cilia moves mucus and foreign particles upwards out of the respiratory tract, helping to keep the lungs and airways free. This ciliated epithelium is from a mammalian trachea.
