Lunar North Pole, composite image
Lunar North Pole, composite image. Lunar mosaic of approximately 1500 Clementine images of the moon's north polar region showing numerous craters. The moon's polar regions are of special interest because of the postulated occurrence of ice in permanently shadowed areas. The north pole of the moon is absent of the very rugged terrain seen at the south pole. Image taken by the Clementine 1 spacecraft in 1994., by NASA/SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY
