Genji fireflies in Shimanto River, Kochi Prefecture
The Shimanto River, which flows through the western part of Kochi Prefecture, has long been called Japan's last clear stream, and the wild dance of Genji fireflies can be seen from upstream to downstream as a poetic feature of early summer. I photographed the Genji fireflies from the opposite bank of the Takase Chinkage Bridge in Shimanto City. A submerged bridge is a bridge without parapets that is submerged under water to prevent it from being washed away in times of heavy flooding.
