Kochi castle ruins
Kochi Castle, Kochi City, Kochi Prefecture, was built in 1601 by Kazutoyo Yamauchi, who inherited 240,000 koku of land in Tosa, and has a history of over 400 years. The buildings of the Honmaru Castle, including the Honmaru Goten, West Tamon Yagura (tower), and Otemon Gate, are almost completely preserved. Kochi Castle is the only castle in Japan where the castle tower and the Honmaru Goten are still standing. (1-2-1 Marunouchi, Kochi City) The sun setting over the castle tower can be seen from the east side of Otemon Gate in spring and autumn.
