The Statue of Peace, Mar 28, 2024 : The Statue of Peace is seen in front of Wangsimni station in Seongdong district, Seoul, South Korea. The Statue of Peace, aka 'Comfort Women Statue' symbolizes the Korean victims of the Japanese military's sexual slavery during the World War II. According to local media, historians say up to 200,000 women, mostly Koreans, were forced into sexual slavery in front-line Japanese brothels during the war when the Korean Peninsula was a Japanese colony. The sex slaves were so-called comfort women. (Photo by Lee Jae-Won/AFLO)
