Urostomy bag following cancer surgery
Urostomy bag on a 76 year old male patient following a cystoprostatectomy procedure to treat bladder cancer. This procedure involves the removal of both the bladder (cystectomy) and the prostate gland (prostatectomy). As a result of this surgery, the patient requires the use of a urostomy bag to collect urine. A urostomy bag is used when the bladder is removed or bypassed due to disease or injury. To facilitate the passage of urine, the surgeon creates a stoma - a small opening in the abdomen - through which urine can pass into a pouch or bag attached externally., by DR P.
