Zambezi Delta, satellite image
Satellite image of the Zambezi Delta, Mozambique, where the Zambezi river meets the Indian Ocean (bottom right). As rivers meet open bodies of water they slow down, causing sediment to be deposited (lighter blue), forming a delta. The Zambezi delta contains diverse ecosystems, including grassland, mangroves and swamps. It contains very high biodiversity, acts as a food source for much of Mozambique and is a natural flood defence. This image was captured by the Copernicus Sentinel-2A satellite on 28 September 2016., by EUROPEAN SPACE AGENCY/SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY
