London Mayor Sadiq Khan pledges support for parents living in poverty and for young people.
London, UK - April 18, 2024
Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said he would fund 'baby banks' where parents in need can obtain essentials like nappies, as he launched Labour's manifesto for the London Assembly and mayoral elections on May 2.
In a speech that focused on children and education, Mr Khan said he would provide universal free school meals for children in state primary schools in London, saying this would remove the "shame of not having enough money to eat".
The mayor also promised to introduce a scheme to help young Londoners to work and study abroad, in a replacement for the EU's Erasmus programme, which the UK left after Brexit.
