Buoys to be set up for undersea survey
A Japan Coast Guard patrol boat on alert around the float (1:03 p.m., Aug. 16, 2014, in Nago City, Okinawa Prefecture). On the morning of August 16, a standoff continued in the Henoko coastal area of Nago City, Okinawa Prefecture, over the relocation plan for the U.S. Futenma Air Station (Ginowan City) in Okinawa Prefecture, with about 50 Coast Guard rubber boats and other vessels on alert for the upcoming undersea drilling survey. On the 15th, buoys were installed along the coastline to prevent intruders from entering the site of the borehole survey. The Okinawa Defense Bureau is expected to place a drilling barge inside the buoys on the 16th. Opposition groups protested in front of the gate of the U.S. military's Camp Schwab, which faces the site waters.
