China's logistics sector is in the midst of a digital transformation, where big data and AI are converging to boost efficiency and bring down costs for both delivery firms and customs authorities.
At a warehouse in the southern Chinese tech hub Shenzhen, an automated parcel sorting system scans and processes packages for cross-border e-commerce.
A local logistics company developed the system and says it greatly improves the accuracy and speed of parcel sorting.

Dai Bin, vice president, cross-border logistics company:
"On my right side is our traditional sorting equipment, which relies on manual labor. It's very slow and prone to higher error rates. And behind me is our latest addition, an automated sorting system. It has increased our efficiency by more than 400 percent, with an accuracy rate of up to 99.9 percent."

Mo Runlin, deputy head, 4th express mail supervision division, Shenzhen Post Office Customs:
"We have developed a series of systems to improve our work efficiency. On this screen, we can see the declaration information and images of goods, and also supervision instructions. This allows us to comprehensively assess if the declarations are accurate. It means that in some cases, we don't need to open the packages to reach a conclusion."
