A female Formosan bamboo wasp, gnawing a hole in a piece of shinotake bamboo
They make their nests by drilling holes in dead bamboo. Although they are similar to the native Kimunekuma bumblebees, they can be distinguished by their black backs. Also, the yellow-headed bee does not nest in bamboos.
