Revocation of Obokata's degree
Waseda University, one-year grace period established.
On July 7, Waseda University, which awarded the doctoral degree to Haruko Obokata, the author of the STAP cell paper and leader of RIKEN's research unit, announced that it would revoke Obokata's degree due to alleged irregularities in her doctoral dissertation. However, the university also accepted responsibility for serious deficiencies in the examination process, and said that if the thesis is corrected within the next year or so, the degree will be maintained.
