Tsukudukushima, a Tradition of Edo

September, 1972, Tokyo, Japan - Well water is drawn by hand pumps at Tokyo's Tukudajima. Experts at drying, curing and preserving, the islanders created a nourishing concoction made from seaweed and shellfish, seasoned with saltfish. The result, known as tsukudani, is still made here. VTY-mis-
