Nagasaki Cargo ship (1877)

From the picture by Colonel Walter Fane, in the possession of Lord Northbrook." Thomas George Baring, 1st Earl of Northbrook, (1826-904), was a British politician and statesman. While he was Viceroy of India (1872-876) he encouraged the practice of art among officers of the army and navy. This work was produced by Walter Fane (1828-885), who would later become a general in the British Army. Fane raised a troop of irregular cavalry which became Fane's Horse.
