On July 17, JR Kyushu unveiled its new sightseeing train "Aru Train" with a theme of sweets at the Kokura General Rolling Stock Center in Kitakyushu City. The exterior of the train features an arabesque pattern based on gold, stained glass windows, and an interior that uses a lot of wood on the ceiling and floor, giving it a luxurious feel. The train will begin service between Oita and Hita Stations in Oita Prefecture on August 8. The train consists of two cars and has a capacity for 38 passengers. The design is based on a model of a Meiji-era luxury train created by Shintaro Hara, a collector of model trains who passed away last year. The interior of the train is carpeted with table seating. There is also a kitchen where sweets are prepared, and Hara's original model is displayed.
