Logbooks written on birch bark, repatriation materials such as Siberian internment
A journal written on birch bark, photographed on December 19, 2013, and published in the September 30, 2015 morning edition of "Toji Yuri Documents: A Heritage of Memories? The Maizuru Repatriation Memorial Museum, which opened in 1988, houses about 12,000 items donated by former internees, including tools used in the camps and letters from family members. The city has applied to have 570 of these items designated as heritage of memory. The items include a journal made of birch bark and inked with soot from the stove, and a notepad hidden in a pair of shoes.
