Japan's business daily newspapesr with front page headlines reporting Sharp accepts Foxconn's $6.2 billion offer are seen in Tokyo, Japan on February 25, 2016. Sharp announced on Thursday that it had agreed to a rescue offer from Taiwan's Foxconn Technology Group. Under the terms of the deal Foxconn will control 65.9 percent of Sharp. It is rare for a foreign investor to take control of a Japanese company but Sharp accepted Foxconn's offer instead of one from Innovation Network Corp. of Japan. Sharp, which is one of the largest suppliers of screens for phones and tablets, will remain independent and keep its brand.
