Octopus paperweight for prayer for success
Popular for "Put it down and pass (pass)
With the entrance exam season in full swing, the production of "Yumetakoshin Octopus-kun," a paperweight in the shape of an octopus, a local specialty, to pray for success, is reaching its peak at the "Iriya Yes Studio" in Minamisanriku, Miyagi Prefecture. The name "Octopus" is a combination of the English word "octopus" and "put it down and pass" (pass the exam), and the goods are popular among students preparing for entrance exams. The 5-centimeter-high iron octopus weighs about 600 grams and was first made in 2009, and since the Great East Japan Earthquake, it has been used as a symbol of hope for the recovery of the area.
