Scientific name: Bothriechis schlegelii
Eyelash viper (Bothriechis schlegelii) on a flower. This small venomous pitviper inhabits trees in forests in tropical areas of Central and South America. The scales over its eyes, which give it its name, are thought to aid in camouflage. It feeds on rodents, frogs, lizards and small birds, striking from an ambush site.
