Margaret Sanger
(Date of filming unknown)
Margaret Sanger (1879-1966). Historical image of the American sex educator, birth control pioneer and activist Margaret Higgins Sanger sitting at a desk. When working as a nurse amongst disadvantaged women in New York, Sanger was angered by the suffering and poor health brought about by unplanned pregnancies. She subsequently devoted her life to promoting and distributing contraceptives, illegal practices at the time. She was arrested for founding the first birth control clinic in the US in 1916, but continued her campaign upon her release.
