General visit to celebrate the accession of His Majesty the Emperor to the throne On November 18, 1990, a general visit to celebrate the accession of His Majesty the Emperor to the throne was held in the East Garden of the Imperial Palace, attended by 109,800 people (according to the Imperial Palace Police). This was the first general visit to the palace since His Majesty's accession to the throne. A total of 14 people, including Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress, the Crown Prince, Prince and Princess Akishino, Prince and Princess Norinomiya, Prince and Princess Hitachi, Prince and Princess Mikasa, Prince and Princess Kannin (Prince Kannin made only two visits in the afternoon), and Prince and Princess Takamado, stood on the veranda of Chowadono Hall.
