JR East's luxury sleeper train "Shikishima" begins service.
East Japan Railway's latest luxurious sleeper train, the Train Suite Shiki-Shima, makes its debut on May 1, 2017, Tokyo, Japan. The luxury train left Ueno station in Tokyo with 33 passengers, accommodated in 17 suites, at the start of a four-day trip covering Hokkaido and parts of northeastern Japan. The train is designed to offer passengers a cruise experience with a modern Japanese taste.
