Kobe Steel Scandal Spreads

On Thursday, October 12, two major Japanese railways, Central Japan Railway and West Japan Railway, announced that substandard parts from Kobe Steel were used in the manufacture of some of their bullet trains. Kobe Steel has admitted to falsifying data on aluminum, copper and iron ore parts, and on Friday the company announced it had falsified data related to steel wire used in car engines and tires.
