The booming economy (Izanagi economy) continues. Department stores were packed for the year-end shopping season. Sunday, December 8, 1968, was the day of the year-end shopping season in Ikebukuro. The peak of the year-end shopping season was one week earlier than usual because of the Izanagi economy and the early conclusion of the bonus season this year. Department stores in Tokyo were crowded with people, buoyed by the booming economy. Even one-way traffic signs were posted inside the stores.
