Buckle, 1800-1900. Gilded silver, Malaysia. Malay men usually wore a sash with a buckle to hold up their sarong or lower garment. This especially elaborate waist buckle once belonged to a noble of the 2nd rank, Abdul Wahab bin Toh Muda Abdul Aziz. He was the Chief Minister of Perak between 1948 and 1957.
