2018 Ig Nobel Prize Japanese winners for 12th consecutive year

The Ig Nobel Prize, which recognizes serious and humorous research from around the world, was awarded at Harvard University in the United States on March 13, and Akira Horiuchi, chief of internal medicine at Showa Inan General Hospital, received the Medical Education Award. The prize was awarded to Horiuchi for his research in which he inserted a colonoscope into himself and performed the dual role of examiner and patient. Taking the stage at the award ceremony, Mr. Horiuchi introduced a simulated method of examining himself with a colonoscope, which made the audience burst into laughter. He then conveyed the importance of the examination, saying, "Please have an endoscopic examination.
