The Palaceside Building was completed. The Palaceside Building, seen from above (rear) and the National Diet area, was constructed in July 1964 as a new building (part of which was rented) for the Tokyo headquarters of the Mainichi Shimbun and Nippon Reader's Digest, and was completed in September 1966. Nikken Sekkei designed the building and Daelim Corporation and Takenaka Corporation jointly constructed it. The total construction cost was 10 billion yen. The building had nine stories above ground and six below, with a total area of 117,300 square meters. The building was designed with the best architectural technology of the time condensed into an innovative design that looked ahead to the 21st century.
