Tokyo in the 1960s Chiyoda Ward (October 1966)

The completed Palaceside Building. Viewed from Takebashi Bridge, the Palaceside Building was constructed in July 1964 as the new headquarters of the Mainichi Shimbun Tokyo Head Office and the Japan Reader's Digest (part of the building was leased), and was completed in September 1966. Nikken Sekkei designed the building and Daelim Corporation and Takenaka Corporation jointly constructed it. The total construction cost was 10 billion yen. The building had nine stories above ground and six below, with a total floor area of 117,300 square meters. The building was designed with the best architectural technology of the time condensed into an innovative design for the 21st century. The completed Palaceside Building.
